Erik Knutzen of Homegrown Evolution is the only person who we invited to write for us here at illuminateLA. We are honored to have had a couple posts written by him, before he got too busy with his own book.
Almost a year has gone by and Erik and his wife Kelly have been working […]

Thank You, Stranger In a Car!

April 20th, 2008 · 2 Comments

Two nights ago I rode my bike to the Colony Theatre in Burbank along Burbank Blvd.
The street was quite empty, not much traffic at all, and I rode about 4 feet away from the door zone.
As I was riding along a few cars passed. It was already dusk and I had my front and […]

The Rights and Duties of Cyclists - This video is GREAT!

March 31st, 2008 · 5 Comments

I’m usually skeptic when I receive a video link about the Rights & Rules of cyclists. (I’m not seeing any video being circulated around the web about the Rights & Rules of drivers, and they are the ones who kill over 40,000 people a year.)

No Plastic Utensils, Thank You :-)

March 28th, 2008 · 3 Comments

Going out for a quick bite can be a real hassle for the green conscious. Everything is packed in plastic or polystyrene (styrofoam) and plastic utensils are free of charge with your order.
So I don’t eat out that much anymore. But sometimes I just can’t stop the craving for a good Baja Burrito. […]

Action or In-Action? That is the Question.

March 25th, 2008 · No Comments

Today I followed a blog discussion with the title “Do you believe in Global Warming?” I was infuriated reading not only about the title but about bringing up such question without action. The question only prompts discussion and gossip about what we believe in but it does not prompt us into action, regardless […]

Eliminate All Plastic Grocery Bags From U.S. Super Markets

February 29th, 2008 · 2 Comments

I wrote about plastic bags back in December and when I rode the LA River a couple weeks ago I really was disgusted.
What looked like snow on the branches of the trees and bushes was plastic bags.

Dear LAPD, Bikes Belong In Traffic!

October 6th, 2007 · 2 Comments

Dear LAPD,
Bikes belong in traffic! Cyclists belong on the street and not in the gutter, or the door zone, or the sidewalk (read “walk”.)
Below is the San Francisco PD training video, but the California Vehicle Code (CVC) is the same here in Los Angeles. Please, watch this and write down the code.
Protect the people by […]

Pasadena Motion Passed

August 7th, 2007 · No Comments

What a shame! In the early hours of Tuesday morning, the Pasadena City Council passed a motion prohibiting “bicyclists from riding more than two abreast in any public street…”
The night was long, starting at 6:30 in the evening on Monday, and the agenda was heavy with tedious items that resulted in long discussions about ending […]
