Earth Hour on Saturday, March 28th

earth-hourEarth Hour is an international event organized by the World Wide Fund), and held on the last Saturday of March each year, which asks households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights and electrical appliances for one hour to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change.

We will spend the evening at a friends birthday party. And we will also celebrate Earth Hour.  Our host will pass out candles and we will of course bring some candles as well. I’m very much looking forward to the fun evening.

Earth Hour starts at 8:30 pm and lasts until 9:30 pm. Join us, by switching your lights off for an hour. Go outside on a nice evening stroll, ride your bike around the city with friends, go camping or do whatever you want, as long as your lights are turned off.

Even if you can’t participate from 8:30-9:30pm for whatever reason, you can still make a difference. In 2006 we prevailed in asking the LA Zoo to turn off their lights. You can ask the DWP to not hold a Light Festival that disturbs the urban environment.  You can switch to energy efficient light bulbs in your household (make sure you recycle them. They are extremely hazardous!) and ask your work place to do the same.  Turn off your computer when you are not around or put it in sleep mode and ask your neighborhood businesses to turn off their bright lights when the store is closed.  Lobby your Citycouncil to ban digital billboards, etc.

Have a wonderful weekend and thank you for turning off your lights to raise awareness about global warming and our environment.
