Many things happened since my last email blast. I performed at the fantastic Regent Theatre during EdgeFest in the play “Voices From Chornobyl” and I finished shooting a short film titled “Adelinde” with Tom and Brian and Jeff, the guys from Eros & the Guillotine. They were awesome to work with as always! I’m now prepping for a 365 Days/365 Plays performance on August 11th and 12th at Echo Park and also a short promo for the web in September.
I also updated this site. It’s now in blog format. Easier to find the articles, and easier to read I hope. I archived most of the things I posted in the past from my homeless kids photos, What is wrong with Sunset Blvd.?, City Hall ride on Bike To Work Day and other Campaigns to Theatre rides, Bike rides and Environmental issues and more.
You can also leave your comments, find subjects by category and find a bunch of our favorite links. Woohoo! Enjoy the new look and feel of illuminateLA and leave a comment or two about the past events that you joined us on.
But the Summer just started and I’m not only planning to work but I will also have some fun.
The Independent Shakespeare Company is back again at Barnsdall Park and they are a must see! They have some of the best talent working with them, they are FREE, they are FUN, and they pay their actors union wages. How do they do it you wonder? Well, they get sponsorship and they ask for a donation afterwards. And that pays better sometimes then if you ask upfront for money for a show you haven’t experienced yet. You will love these guys! And if you can’t leave a donation after you see them, just refer them to your friends and maybe one of them will give them a small donation. It all works out. No pressure on anybody. Go and enjoy the show and bring a blanket and some picnic while you’re at it!
On Thursday, August 2nd at 8 pm, QuikSilverEdition Mission is hosting a special segment of the Sunset Cinema Series titled “Disarm.” The screening is FREE with drinks and live music in Venice. This is an outdoor cinema event, so bring a hoodie or a blanket.
August 3rd is Pay-What-You-Can performance at the Odyssey Theatre for “Desire Under the Elms” with fantastic Charlie Robinson and Nadege August. I did the still photos for the production, so visit their website and then go and see the show. Great story, great performance, great theatre and great price
This coming Friday, August 3th, RideArc is rolling out again, with a theme that has not yet been announced. RideArc is usually a slower ride and it is so much fun, I can’t wait to join them again after not riding with our friends for weeks now. These summer nights are so beautiful to ride your bike, there should be very few excuses for not riding.
Saturday, August 4th, CORBA is holding their FREE Mountain Bike Skills Clinic. This is such an awesome class, I recommend it for anybody and for any age. I’m not a mountain biker, but this clinic helped me in so many ways to be comfortable on the bike on the streets. I used to be scared to ride down hills, and I used to be very clumsy on bad roads (which are everywhere in LA, just try to ride Santa Monica Blvd in Hollywood or Wishire Blvd.) In this class I learned how to position my body on a bike, how to ride down stairs and up, and how to use my weight for control.
In the evening of August 4th, we are going to ride out to the REDCAT to see a friend perform in the New Original Works Festival. The show starts at 8:30 pm and tickets are $18. If you join REDCAT on myspace, you can save $4. That is a great deal for a theatre with a great reputation.
August 11th and 12th, at 10 am, 12 noon and 2 pm I will perform in Susan Lori Parks 365 Days/365 Plays at the Echo Park lake. That’s right. This performance is going to be outdoors, amongst the park visitors. You will have to walk around and “discover” who is a performer and who is a regular visitor
Woohoo! This will be a lot of fun! I can’t wait! This production is created by Smart Gals Productions, and you better sign up to their mailing list, because one of these days these peeps will go nationwide
Great people with great hearts and great minds! For more info and if you want to participate contact christine@smartgals.org.
On Sunday, August 12th at 2 pm, the American Cinematheque’s 7th Anniversary Festival of Fantasy, Horror and Sci-Fi has a FREE screening of the 1967 35 mm film “Games” The Cinematheque is easily accessible by the Metro Red Line and by bike. Don’t bring your car! You’ll be towed, ticketed, and it will be frustrating. Drop your car somewhere at a Red Line Station and take the Metro. It will be a fun adventure
And lastly, on September 21st, Los Angeles will have it’s first Park[ing] Day, organized by the Alliance for a Livable Los Angeles. We’ll be seizing parking spaces by paying the parking meter fee, but instead of parking a car, we will transform the space into a park. The cheapest real estate in town! Yeah! If you want to get involved by volunteering, by building your own park, by donating stuff or by helping spread the word, email me at parkingdayla@illuminateLA.com or join us on myspace at www.myspace.com/parkingdayla or go to our website www.parkingdayla.com and go to the contact page to sign up to our mailing list.
I hope to see you all this summer at one of our events! Ride your bike and walk! It’s good for you and for the planet ![]()
