Happy Labor Day and September!

September 1st, 2005 · No Comments

August is coming to an end, which means going back to school, coming back from your vacations, getting back to your regular routines, and setting new goals! Lets make our planet a little better every day :-)))

Now regarding school: if you’re an Actor, Writer or Director, it’s that time of year again for you all to get back to classes :-) And on that note, I would love to recommend a wonderful coach. His name is Sal Romeo, and I have been studying with him off and on since … oh, my… it’s hard to believe, but since 1998. His studio is located at the corner of Vermont and Franklin. You see the actors sometimes on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday nights work in the environment. This means that the actors are improvising a scene that is given to them, and they are not in the studio space but on the street, in the local restaurants, or the shops with another actor. It’s really fun! Especially when you loose your partner and you find yourself all alone, improvising with a stranger. This happened to me once, and I had so much fun, I’m still doing it once in a while on my own.

Sal teaches usually opposite Ebba (movement and relaxation) or Camille (Speech and Voice), which I always loved, because it is the yin-yang approach. Men think different then women (duh) so this way I always got constructive criticism from the male AND the female perspective. I don’t know any classes that have that yin-yang coaching method. Directors and writers also take his classes so they can learn what actors need, how they work, and also how they can get better into their characters. The classes include movement and relaxation, speech and voice, on-camera technique, cold reading, scene study, and much more. Set up a meeting with Sal. He is the BEST!

And talking about goals! Hey, I know you want to fix up your bike and go with us on a critical mass ride. So, go to Bicycle Kitchen, and they will fix your bike or teach you how to fix yours, or you can put one together yourself with their help, and with their parts ;-))) Don’t go on Labor Day weekend, they are on a little brake ;-) But visit them before the 3rd or after the 5th, and get your bike ready! The Critical Masses are awesome! I’ll write about it next week!
