Help Is On It’s Way!

July 25th, 2006 · No Comments

The City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks will keep Senior Citizen Centers open due to expected high temperatures. Department Senior Centers will also be open during regularly scheduled hours on weekdays. The Centers will have free water available.

According to Recreation and Parks General Manager Jon Kirk Mukri, the Department will respond to Heat Advisories from the Los Angeles City Fire Department (LAFD) and/or the National Weather Service. LAFD advises Angelenos stay indoors, refrain from strenuous work or exercise during the hottest part of the day, and stay hydrated. The effects of heat can quickly overcome the healthiest people. Elderly people, young children, those who are sick, live alone or are overweight are more likely to become victims of excessive heat.

For more information about the Senior Citizen program, the public should call 310-548-7671. For information about the Department of Recreation and Parks, its programs and parks, the public should call 1-888-LA PARKS (527-2757) or visit the web site.
