Imagine East Hollywood – an Interactive Show at Barnsdall

Imagine East Hollywood Graffiti Wall

Cindy Marie Jenkins, a writer/director and activist, presented her adapted play Voices From Chornobyl at the Cahuenga Library in East Hollywood in 2009. The East Hollywood Neighborhood Council sponsored the event and several members of the  Neighborhood Council attended the staged reading and were so inspired that they commissioned Cindy to do a project for them that would represent the voices from East Hollywood.

And so the journey began and community members went out into the streets, armed with cameras and voice recorders and interviewed people on the streets of East Hollywood. The interviews then were uploaded to YouTube, they were transcribed (at least most of them), photos were taken and shared on the imagine East Hollyood Flickr group, drawings and art was collected from various places including the Braille Institute and LA Commons and the project was invited to participate in this years Fluxus Exhibit titled Actions, Conversations and Intersections at Barnsdall Municipal Gallery.

On Friday, April 2nd the work will be presented as a live Interactive show at the Barnsdall Gallery and you are invited! This is a one time presentation only and you don’t want to miss out!

The event is FREE and the Gallery is easily accessible via public transportation and via bike. (During Bike Week Brian Janeczco built a bike rack that we left for the park to use.)

The performance is about 30 minutes long and starts at 7pm but you are encouraged to arrive early so that you can add your voice and your imaginings on the Graffiti Wall.

The project will be performed by Enci (moi), Catherine MacKinnon, Oriko Ikeda, Bradley Spann & Channing Sargeant.
