The last couple years, Stephen and I have been involved with the Los Angeles Bicycle Film Festival but this year, unfortunately we’ll be missing out because we’re in Australia. We might be able to make the closing party on the 30th, though and we hope to see you there as well!
In 2001, Brendt Barbur, Founder and Director, was compelled to start the Bicycle Film Festival after being hit by a bus while riding his bike in New York City. Instead of being deterred by this experience, it inspired him to create a festival that celebrates the bicycle through music, art, and film. Now in its ninth year the festival is held in 39 cities worldwide. 250,000 people are expected to attend this year.
This year the Downtown Independent at 251 South Main St. near W. 3rd. St. will be screening the films on Friday the 28th and Saturday the 29th and the block party will be as usual at the Bicycle District, also known as HelMel, on Heliotrope and Melrose.
Hope on your bike or take the Metro to either events. There will be bike valet parking as well as lots of great swag to pick up. I bought t-shirts from all the past years events, and I’ll be sure to grab one this year as well.
Visit the Bicycle Film Festival website for more info and see you there!
