Support the Alliance of Los Angeles Playwrights

reading is sexySupport the Alliance of Los Angeles Playwrights (ALAP)!

Virtually any purchases you make at Barns & Noble today at the Grove or in Encino on Monday (books, CDs, DVDs, coffee, food, etc) benefit ALAP! Download and give them a voucher (pdf) or tell them you’re with ALAP.

In fact, for up to a week, ALAP can get credit for your purchase. Can’t make it?  Just call them at 323-525-0270 and tell them you’re with the ALAP Book Fair. They’ll take your order over the phone and deliver it for free!  None of your purchases cost you anything extra, and they help ALAP!

For those of you who like to buy books — or, for that matter, CDs, DVDs, gifts, and even sandwiches — this Saturday will be your chance to go hog-wild, while at the same time benefiting ALAP!

Yep, it’s the 2nd ALAP Book Fair at Barnes and Noble at The Grove, and when you buy virtually anything in the store — with a few exceptions such as gift cards, magazine subscriptions, and B&N memberships — ALAP gets a percentage of the purchase price!

When we did the 1st Book Fair last year, ALAP members and friends spent almost $1,200 at B&N, which netted ALAP 10%, or $120 — if the sales total had been above $2,000 we would have gotten 15% of the gross (sounds like a movie contract, doesn’t it…?)

Let’s see if we can beat last year’s total, and show B&N that ALAP is worth having back on a regular basis.

The Book Fair runs from 9:00 AM to 11:00 PM, and all you have to do is present a Book Fair voucher (to download a batch of three, click here laplaywrights.org/B&Nvoucher09.pdf) when you make your purchase. If you run out of vouchers, no problem — just tell the cashier you’re with the ALAP Book Fair and ask him or her to ring it up as such.

If you can’t make it to the store that day, not to worry: you can phone your order in, and B&N will deliver it to your home at no cost. Just call the store at 323-525-0270 with your order, and make sure to tell the operator you’re with the ALAP Book Fair.

And if you come to The Grove on Saturday, why not stop by to see the latest edition of ALAP’s long-running event, In Our Own Voices? This series of 10-minute readings by members and actors is always a lot of fun. Saturday’s participants include Alexa Alexander, Robin Byrd, Jon Dorf, James C. Ferguson, Bill Hyatt, Kres Mersky, Mona Miller, and Eugenie Trow. There is a second In Our Own Voices on Monday night, May 18, at Barnes & Noble Encino, featuring Judith Allen, Nancy Beverly, Mary Burkin, Paul Eremenco, Ann Gibbs, Stephanie Hutchinson, Dean Stewart, and event producer Gary Young — but no Book Fair that night!

Please come out and support ALAP at the Book Fair, and tell all your friends! The more money ALAP can make from this terrific event, the more we’ll be able to do to expand our programs for SoCal writers!
